Sideoats Cafe and Bakery

The newspaper clipping on the wall describes this as the 'must' stop in Menard. That hardly does it justice, as its not like there are a lot of other options in town. It's more like, if you're going through Menard, you MUST stop. This is exactly the down home, country cooking you hope to find in a little town. The counter is overflowing with baked goods - brownies, pies, giant oatmeal cookies. They serve bluebell icecream on the side. I ordered a club sandwich: delicious roast chicken, thick-cut bacon, basil mayo, on fresh-baked sourdough bread, grilled in butter, crunchy and piquant, not to mention freshly fried kettle chips on the side ... Yum! Do stop!

I'm a local here in Menard, and this is by far the best restaurant in town. They have hand dipped blue bell ice cream, homemade cakes and pies, daily specials, and very good food. I wouldn't expect a restaurant as good as Sideoats to be in a town as small as Menard, but I'm glad it is. Restaurants like this were very hard to find in the bigger cities I've lived in.

Great food, friendly service. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Efficient and friendly, fantastic food - 100% thumbs-up!
