We were in Marfa in May of 2014 and this is the first place we ate at. Love the tex-mex there. No it is not a 5 star restaurant but considering that it is in the middle of freaking no where, I thought the atmosphere matched the location.
I'm "the friend with the baby cockroach in my burrito". Locals told us we had to eat at Mando's. Got super excited when my friends brought back food to the house. The first few bites were pretty good until I saw the intact antenna of a baby cockroach cooked in with the eggs. After removing the cockroach and trying to give it another go. I started to question myself as a human being and threw it away. My poor friends loss their appetite and it was never spoken of again, until now. They don't call it a Trash Can burrito for nothing.
Really nice service, all the way around. Things were going great after we brought the food home until a baby roach fell out of my friend's breakfast burrito, cooked and all. We all lost our appetites at that.
Started off great. Nice people. The burger sounded very promising. After a 30 minute wait (for a burger) we received a clump of pubes in our french fries. Need I say more?
I have been eating at Mondo's almost all my life and it is still the best place to eat in Marfa. Forget all the fancy-smanchy, artsy-fartsy places and eat at Mondo's.
