Garden Valley Golf Club

Garden Valley is a beautiful course, fairways green and well maintained. Its long and challenging but oh so fun. Lots of stay and play places to choose and good deals. It has two lakes and beautiful shade trees. Should be a 'must' on places to play in this area! Posted pictures today.

We have played at GC once a year for the past 8 yrs and the course continues to worsen. A beautiful course/layout but needs better maintenance and a few improvements on several holes. A few feel like you are on a miniature golf course. One par 4 really needs to be reworked. a left dog leg with a tree in the center of narrowing fairway that requires you to hit over a pond with a severely slopped front and very sloped green. Anything above the hole will cause your putt most likely to fall off the green. Either fixed the green (less slope) or change the approach. In addition, they are started to get some challenges from other courses with lower pricing for an equivalent or better experience. Our last 3 golf outings were at a different course.

This is only some of my concerns that I addressed in my correspondance to General Manager Rick Brewer after having stayed at Gaden Valley in April 2012. I was not even graced with a response! According to his daughter - who acts as the Resort's booking agent, we stayed at their "busiest weekend of the year" because they were hosting the Brookshire's golf tournament. If this reflects their "best" I would hate to see an average weekend. The facilities were in poor repair - needing paint and general maintenance. The outside pool was dirty as was the inside pool. Likewise the inside pool's heater was broken. Cable Channels were non-existent, the ac leaked water through the kitchen light, the stove only worked on high and was small, the kitchen utensils were old and small and barely functioned, the workout equipment - while it looked good - was only for show because all of the resistance shocks were damaged and the video games had no batteries for the remotes so we were unable to determine if they functioned or not. Our room also had spider eggs attached to the bedspread. Warning the rooms are definitely NOT handicap accessible. Basically we paid $279.00 a night to stay not at a resort, but rather at a fishing camp. We were very disappointed. While the golf course was enjoyed by the golfers in our group - I would not waste my money going to this resort with many real "Resort" options to choose from in the same area. Great course set in the pines of east Texas. Great stay and plays. Very challenging for the avid golfer. Food is good and staff very friendly. Run a lot of specials to play at reasonable prices. Not quite as manicured since being sold but still a must play.
