Today I went for Sunday dinner to the Home Bakery in Crowell, Texas. The dinner rolls were dreamy--so light and fresh, served with real butter. Excellent salad. It is hard to find other than iceberg lettuce in some West Texas restaurants. This one had interesting, healthy greens. My salmon was grilled to perfection, seasoned with black pepper and lemon. The mashed potatoes were obviously homemade and so flavorful. My husband and I had to split and share our desserts. We were sad we could eat only two! We chose Italian Cream Cake and Buttermilk Chess Pie. You need to get to Crowell if you want an outstandingly delicious meal. Oh, and the restaurant decor is so beautiful that I found myself wishing I lived there (in it!).
The Home is like Cheers because everyone will know your name. Steve, one of the owners will soon learn your name and your preferences. I like to surprise him from time to time by trying something different. I have NOT had a bad meal or service here. Tammy's desserts are so delicious. So if you are AWAY from home as often as I am, this is definitely the place to have a great meal in a place that feels like HOME!
