This is the classic "Mom & Pop" type of cafe that is waaaay off of the roads most traveled. It's clientele is essentially local residents, older folks, and families. It's downscale homey from top to bottom. If you like this kind of setting and not the usual, slickly designed run of business class restaurants then this place is awesome. Food is served on a self-help buffet and it was, by and large, hot and delicious. The very best were the meatloaf-stuffed green peppers and the steaming hot peach cobbler. The boneless, fried chicken breast tasted home cooked, and the fried squash medallions and green beans were like they came straight from Mom's stove. The only thing that I would give a little short change to were the mashed potatoes. They tasted like instant potatoes. Well done for instant potatoes but, nonetheless, not homemade. The white corn was just a tiny bit tough but still good. There was also mac & cheese, a salad bar, hot rolls and cornbread (us Southern boys love our cornbread!), and ice cream. I didn't try any of those today. The service was essentially being seated by the hostess and then taking care of yourself, which I liked very much. Regarding the decor it's important to understand that it was essentially not a decorated eatery. It just had the kind of stuff that a local, small community restaurant would have, and lots of it. For the setting - perfect. Had they tried to make it look like some urban restaurant it would have failed. I highly recommend the Reagan Cafe. Again, with the excellent food I think that the most important factor for stopping here will be whether you feel comfortable being the person who is obviously from somewhere else.
