Chameleon Club

This place is an amazing venue. BUT, the security staff are the biggest a$$holes ever. All except for Mr. William Blasdell and Greg, they are the most amazing professional people to work with. The rest of the staff is a joke. It is so unprofessional to call people "Motherfu@$er" and "Stupid Bi@#h" especially if they are calling the entertainment or the crew for them that stuff, which happens. They are asking for a lawsuit or for one of them to wind up in a dumpster on fire. If all of the staff members would conduct themselves like Mr. Blasdell, this would be the most amazing venue ever. He should be their boss. I enjoy playing this place personally, but the staff make it so unbearable. They should all be fired, and never allowed to have "power" ever again in their life. Bunch of fat dumb bald redneck guys that "think" they are tough, but would get wrecked in a heartbeat. If you go here, don't put up with their crap, let them know you will slap their teeth out, they are all bark. Guys they make tighter Affliction shirts by the way.
One piece of advice - don't go unless you like rude staff and hot / low lit conditions. Was there a year ago and things seem to go down hill. Don't understand why this place still operating. Never again - you've been warned... :(
Decent place, parking not a bad price for $5 in a garage, 3-stories allow for more (comfortable) viewers and more space, but I won't go back. The lighting was truly terrible and ruined my night along with lax rules for the photographers. Read below. PROS: They sell alcohol which is nice and have competent and knowledgeable/respectful staff. Smallish venue means you can get pretty intimate. Seemed very organized. Security seemed good about recognizing rowdy crowd-goers and drunks (but not media). *See media CON below. Media seemed to be required to leave after 3-4 songs (but even for the bands with 5-song set lists). *See media CON below. CONS: Added a fifth band (local college boys) so they opened the doors a half hour early without warning and that meant the VIP people who paid extra for VIP were unable to get early access to the venue as was stated on our receipts. I'll admit the early access was stated by the band managers not the venue but there was no communication. Smoking allowed inside - yuck! Stage is not centered so it's a bit awkward. Lighting is awful - they light from behind the bands more than toward them so there is more light on the crowd then the band and half the time the band members are just silhouettes and you can't see them. No control over media/let the photographers run rampant. (Also allowed crew member helping the bands set up/tear down into the "media" platforms with no comment to stop them.) Photographers were standing straight up (on higher platforms than the crowd mind you) and not respectful of the crowd who PAID to get in so they blocked the view for the majority of the first 4 songs for EACH BAND and the security did not say a word to stop them from blocking paying customers' views. It was rude and I've never experienced photographers leaning back into the crowd on our hands on the rail, standing blantantly in front of us, etc.
I went to this club for the first time over the weekend to see Five Iron Frenzy. The show was sold out. I waited in a stuffy basement for an hour to meet the band because I bought VIP tickets. By the time I went upstairs to see the show it was so full that I could not see or hear the band. The lead singer was talking in between songs and I could only hear people laughing at his jokes. It was heart breaking. The venue clearly sells more tickets then it should to make more money and cares nothing for the experience of the audience. There needs to be some competition for Chameleon so that it can be shut down. Do not go to a sold out show unless you don't care to see or hear the band. The place has no ventilation and gets extremely hot and stuffy upstairs. Buyer beware! Avoid!! AVOID!! Wait until the band plays Philly, Pittsburgh or Baltimore and have a good experience.
I read all of the negative reviews before we went to the show tonight, and they were all confirmed. Let's start from the beginning. Parking across the street was $5. Not bad. By the time we got there at 7 (which is doors) there was a line wrapping around the block. We decided to wait in our warm car for the line to be let in, then made our way in to the venue. Our IDs were checked (for our 21+ stamp) and we started upstairs. I tried to go into the doorway for the main floor but two security women yelled at me to go upstairs. I asked if we were allowed in there and she kept screaming that 21+ was upstairs, and then gave me attitude when I looked confused. Oooook. Off to a great start. The 2nd floor had a wrap-around balcony and a bar that continued to the outside deck for smoking. For some reason nobody was allowed to get drinks from inside. We had to stand outside in the freezing cold to buy and drink our drinks. Are you kidding me? Staff was not friendly or helpful at all. We made a lap to try to find ANYWHERE to stand where we could see the band. You literally cannot see them unless you're up against the bannisters. We tried going upstairs again to a smaller balcony area - same luck. I got into a fight with an awful girl whose friends didn't even know what bands were playing after I asked if she could skooch over so we could see and it just turned into an awkward unnecessary fight. Another group of girls taking over a different section of bannister were also very unfriendly and couldn't fathom that there were OTHER people trying to look over their shoulders while they're texting away on their iphones. God forbid I brushed against your back. WELCOME TO A ROCK SHOW. Not to mention all the mommies and daddies there to escort their bratty children home. For the last band, who I really wanted to see, we tried our luck back on the first floor. I was able to make my way into the thick of the pit. It was rough with all the kids trying to crowd surf. I've been in quite a few pits, and it was a bit ridiculous. The floor is so small that when you have three girls getting launched at the same time, it becomes too much for the rest of us to keep up - resulting in many kicks to the head, and people just flat out dropped on their heads because YOU'RE TOO HEAVY TO BE CROWD SURFING!! Aside from that, I had a much better - albeit sweaty and sore - time in the pit, although I would have only made it through one band anyway. Maybe 21+ shows are better. All in all, I will never buy tickets to see another show at this venue. It's not worth the awful views, rude patrons, poor service, and UNFRIENDLY STAFF.
