The John Allison Public House
Reviews
This is more than a find, this is one of the finest meals I've had in years. I kept seeing this lovely tavern-restaurant when my ex and I drove through Greencastle, but never had time to stop. It was the Antrim House, formerly Greencastle Hotel, back then. My 16-year-old niece and I stopped for dinner on a weekend excursion and I can attest, she is now a foodie. This young lady ordered the calamari steaks marinated in lemon, oilive oil, and fresh basil with perfectly steamed asparagus spears and saffron rice. Wow. Delicately flavored, perfectly cooked, remarkable. Mine was a large slice of ribeye, medium rare, with a butter salsa of jalepeno and garlic. Medium rare was exactly medium rare. The perfect accompaniments were spiced black beans and and Spanish rice. But the best surprise of all - the peanut butter mousse cake - more like 2 inches of whipped peanut butter mousse cradled between a thin bottom layer of chocolate torte and enrobed in a slightly crunchy "icing" of chocolate ganache. Anyway, no way to describe it better than to say, dining at the John Allison Public House is worth a day trip all on its own.
This is an unbelievable place! The food is great and the staff is top notch. The owner is always there checking about how his customers experience is at the resturant. Highly recommended.
Great food! Great service! Great beer selection! Greencastle needed a place, like this. Highly recommended!
My first experience here was very negative ending with me walking out do to the poor service, and lack of choice. Since then I have tried them again. They're food is awesome, and customer service turned around. I consider it a favorite for taking friends on outings
Great food and desert. Even ate the decoration of the plates. I would highly recommend eating here.
