Anna's - by the sea
Reviews

We enjoy the idiosyncrasies of this hidden gem. Peter is attentive and an excellent chef.

After reading a disproportionality high number of overly positive reviews about this place, I became a little suspicious and decided to check it out for myself. Well folks, here is the truth: There is no Anna and it’s not by the sea. I was unable to find this place along coastal highway 101, because its actually about a half mile from the sea on the EAST side of 101 with no view of the sea whatsoever. I arrived on a Tuesday evening and the place was closed, it appeared to be out of business. There is no sign showing their name or hours of operation. When I returned Friday night, they were open but I discovered there is no "Anna" working there, just a couple of old guys dressed like lumberjacks trying to be upscale waiters, and nobody around named Anna. The name really should be "Peters by the Veterinarian". I became even more concerned with this place when I read the menu and learned that guests should go elsewhere if they have normal children or if they want prompt service. The menu options are very limited and if you are looking for typical Oregon Coast entrées such as salmon or crab, you are in the wrong place, you might be able to get shrimp, if they haven't run out. By the way, there are no desserts and coffee is not available. Can someone please tell me where all the positive reviews are really coming from? How did this place get ranked the #1 restaurant in Gold Beach? Something really smells fishy here. After reading the other reviews here, its abundantly clear that people are afraid to criticize Anna's because the owner, Peter, always writes rebuttals where he denigrates his critics and passes them off as being too bourgeois. He usually treats criticism in a dismissive manner. Can’t wait to see his response to this review!

Anna's is one of the most pretentious restaurants I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. The black cod, which the cook said was far better than that caught in Port Orford, was not fresh and was over-cooked. When the cook (& proprietor?) overheard me mentioning such to my friend he said he saw moisture on my fish and did NOT offer a solution or alternative to the wretchedly dry and chewy dish. The black cod I bought (and sauteed myself) from Post Orford, BTW, was succulent and melted in one's mouth. In Gold Beach I suggest alternatives to Anna's (Spinners?), my friends. Happy travels!

Our daughter found Anna's online and tried it out, and said it was one of the best dinners she ever had. She told us we had to try it when we came to Port Orford a week later. So we tried it as well. We called a day ahead and made a reservation for 8. When we arrived the food was ready, and it was a wonderful dinner. The meal was served family style. Everyone agreed that it was one of the best dinners that had eaten. The flourless chocolate cake for dessert was incredible! This is the best food in this area!

owner is creepy.
