La Roe's Restaurant
Reviews
Dinner food was below par. The liver and onions was dry, needed gravy. The bartender was not that great, screwed up 2 drinks. Martini was asked for Dry came out full of Vermouth and not very cold, other drink was way to strong tasted like pure alcohol. The view is nice outside, but the food is really cheap bar type food. Get a beer and appetisers - that'll be hard to mess up.
I have been a HUGE fan of Laroes for years, and every year it gets better and better. This is a fabulous place to go to on the weekends- or anytime really. It has abundant ambiance, the service is great, and the owner very accommodating. The back patio is a fantastic place to sit and watch the river and nature. My favorites are the warm bacon dressing salad and baked chicken. They have a great buffet on the weekends (I believe its 15.95 pp) and a really good Sunday breakfast brunch. We are getting married this weekend on the river and having our small dinner reception at Laroes- I have no doubt it will be amazing!
Received bad service and way 2 salty French onion soup last night. Waitress asked if we wanted more ice teas then preceded to do 2 Laps around the patio. I am giving 1 star because the view from the patio was beautiful because you could see the river walk. Heard the owner wasn't biker friendly...thinking this is the case.
Ok. Eating on the patio in the summer, spring, fall, is awesome...food is usually good. But did the Christmas buffet with dinner theatre...well no theatre...just some mediocre musicians trying to be comedians and not being very successful...avoid if at all possible...just do restaurant...sure we paid more for dinner theatre...which was not! Pretty misleading. And I enjoy the restaurant...sad.
The plus's ... the tilapia tastes great (and is inexpensive) and the new riverfront patio is awesome. The negative's ... management is bicycle unfriendly. When three of us arrived in our bike gear we were told that no tables were available. The restaurant was almost empty. We waited outside and sure enough, the next group went in and was seated immediately. Grand Rapids is popular with cyclists but the owner has threatened to have law enforcement remove our bikes if they are left in front of his building. Needless to say we are spending our money elsewhere.
