Bonnie Castle Resort and Marina
Reviews
We found Bonnie Castle to be very delightful. We had a party of 11 in three rooms and everyone liked how the new owners have made this place like new. The staff was helpful and friendly . The restaurant was well managed with great food. Waitress Michelle was on top of everything, which made the meal most memorable. We would call this well worth returning to and presently the best place to stay in Alex Bay.
There is nothing spectacular about this "resort". I stayed over the TI River Run and experienced increased rates because of it. It is a little over priced, but it was the only thing available. From what I could tell, most of the renovations are complete. The room was clean and smelled fresh. The staff was friendly and helpful. They actually let me check-in 30 minutes early. I don't know why they call it a resort. There used to be tennis courts, but they are now just a space for marina trucks to park. My wife and I ate at The Pointe, a bar and grill they have on site. Food was OK, and they were out of the steamed clams and onion rings (which we both wanted). Also, the shrimp cocktail is comprised of only four shrimp. They used plastic everything and paper plates. Doesn't seem too "resort-y" to me. Location is not very good if you are going to walk downtown. It is about a mile. Overall it was OK. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a boat or can't find any other place.
So my wife and I stayed their for are 8th anniversary, first of all we were placed in a room that had a bad mold and water damage problem. Second when we requested to change rooms because we were getting headaches the next room they placed us in wasn't even made up, the third room they placed us in had such a bad spider problem on the patio that we couldn't even go out their. Their excuse, MOLD ROOM: yes we have had problems with that room before sorry try this room. UNMAID ROOM: Oh house keeping must have went on break and forgot about finishing. SPIDER ROOM: Yeah this time of year the spiders just get really, really bad. Dinner was great until we got home and looked at the bank statement and realized that they added extra money to the bill without our knowledge. When we called them they told us that their Computer automatically adds money to the bill and after the bank clears the money it will automatically y refund us the extra. WHAT????? When we informed them that that is well illegal they then changed their story into that is just something that your bank does and we need to take that up with them. Really because I've never had that problem with my bank in the over 12 years that I have been with them. and what were we offered for the all the BS that happened at that "Resort" a measly 10% compensation thanks for the $13.50 really made up for it. just because you have an indoor pool and an out door pool does not mean you can call yourself a resort! whatever you do, do not stay here under any circumstance. The river ridge is right down the road and yes they are a little more expensive, but at least you don't have to drive through a dark alleyway to get to your room and the cleanliness difference and curb appeal will just amaze you. Bonnie Lake will also tell you that they have "amazing views" NOOOOO, unless you enjoy looking at broke down boats and garbage! We also saw used condoms in there parking lot so don't bring your children if you haven't had "the talk " yet!
Place has been up graded, clean and friendly, would go back. Staff is excellent
From the moment we enter the door with were meet with smile and taken to our table. The place had changed and all for the better. It was bright and very comfortable. We have spent years going to Bonnie Castle in the past for reunions ,Christmas eve, parties and now Thanksgiving . I have to say the new owners have made the Buffet menu so great. There was such a variety of choices to eat The Lavender %rock salt Encrusted Roast beef was to die for. Maple buttered Glazed Ham and the Cranberry - sag glazed Roast turkey was tender and lovely. The Lemon garlic asparagus were my 11 year old grandson favorite and that is saying a lot. I myself loved them too. The waiter Lonnie was perfect and made our meal a pleasure. The tables were set up beautiful and our view of river was perfect.Only change I would make would be dessert. The children weren't to happy. with desserts. I would suggest tray of cookies maybe a chocolate cake or jello with whipped cream. A coconut cake would please me with raspberry filling.I would give Manor House 10 starts if they would let me. Maybe they will be open for Christmas. Hint ! Hint.! It is a spot you shouldn't miss...............
