The Standard Restaurant & Lounge
Reviews
The first time I had gone to the Standard I went with my little sister for a dinner meal, I enjoyed a nice caesar salad and a calm atmosphere. This past time I went with my father and his brother and brother's wife, and it was pretty different. While just as crowded, the occupants were rather noisy this time; to a point that hearing the waitress tell us about the meal items was difficult. The food, was, well, rather standard. I have most certainly had better meals, and for much cheaper. Plus, with the summer weather, the doors to the outside seating were open allowing many flies and other insects to partake upon other customer meals. It's ok, but I'd prefer to go some place else.
The reviews here are not misleading at all. This place really deserves its name, it's pretty standard. Standard service, standard American fare. Nothing fancy, nothing surprising, you get what you expect. I wouldn't go there for special events, rather just when I need some regular American food. If you're in to discover new things and taste something different, try a different restaurant. I was also kind of disappointed by the menu, there are more choices of appetizers than the actual entrees. But again, it's the standard so... You see what I mean.
Server was not attentive and food was good except roast beef on sandwich could have been a better quality.
Let me start by saying that I read all the reviews before my husband and I went here. I was willing to give it a chance. We got seated and ordered our drinks. We ordered within a few minutes. Our app came out and it was still very hot. I then finished my drink. We decided that the food was ok, standard, nothing special (see all the other reviews). It was quite interesting watching our waiter talk to these two women at another table. He spent 95% of the time that we were there talking to them. Then he came over and asked how the app was (of course we had already finished by this time) and then I got a refill. Our food came out shortly after and was not brought by our waiter. I ordered the SantaFe Chicken Wrap. It was a wrap, lettuce, tomato, super dry and overcooked season chicken. No dressing, or anything. I picked the chicken out of half of the wrap. We then finished, and guess who came back? I told him that I didn't enjoy the wrap, it was dry, there was no dressing... He offered to box the remaining half for me so I could take it home. How thoughtful? He brought back the wrapped food and the check. I was contemplating why we couldn't order dessert. I was so frustrated so I decided I would just pay the bill. Of course we waited for him to leave the other table to come back so he could process our payment. I couldn't decided on leaving no tip, leaving $1 and writing on the bill why, or leaving half a normal tip. I decided on a more than generous 7.5%. I really wanted to leave $0 or $1 but I just didn't have it in me. On our way out I asked to speak to the manager. She defended the waiter! Then she offered me a free app on our next visit! Our next visit???!!! I declined as we will not be returning. I did think to myself I just spent $60 and you are only offering an app? Did you not just hear that we would have wanted dessert? She could have been more apologetic. But as previously stated we will not be returning. I do not and will not recommend!
Our experience (mine and my wife's) was "STANDARD". Nothing at all really was exquisite or over the top. My wife is lactose intolerant and I had attempted to have our server help us out with that to no avail. Finally we were ready to order. I ordered the shrimp scampi (she did tell us that had butter/ dairy, but that one was mine), my wife ordered the arugula seafood salad minus the parm cheese. The salad came out covered in a pyramid of triangular parm cheese, we just thought we ordered it without, oh wait, we did. It wasn't mixed in or anything and put it off to the side. The food was "STANDARD", the same pretentious crap they serve at any other pretentious restaurant and room temperature. My double capichino was out of this world, however this experience wasn't about me. My wife is afraid to dine out because every time we do, she is embarrassed about her lactose intolerance and I'm starting to see why. I'd like to thank my server who got more than a well deserved tip for insuring we NEVER come back for the same "STANDARD" experience. When we stack the plates for our server to pick up at the end of the meal, the triangular cheese slices were blatantly stacked on top and we never heard and apology, how rude!
