The name, Vreeland STORE, is probably a misnomer. This is an historic building, known to many locals, that has been preserved and enhanced by the current owners. It's a bakery, sandwich shop, a restaurant with a bar and an inn with several suites to accommodation out-of-townees located in a rustic setting. Food is very good and everything is homemade (or made on the premises) by two young entrepreneurs whose father renovated the store to it's former glory. They sell breakfast foods....scones, muffins, pancakes, eggs dishes, etc. Lunch food includes tasty sandwiches and soups. Several evenings each week they offer Tapas with a variety of assorted dishes....again...all homemade. Gluten-free food is also available. The on-site baker also makes macaroons in a variety of flavors. Prices are affordable.
I've been there 3 times in the last month for breakfast & lunch, and my overall impression is outstanding. I grew up in the restaurant business, my dad owning several in NYC and have worked as a restaurant consultant, a producer of TV Food Shows and last but not least a teacher of cooking and food history in NYC as well as right here at the adult Ed classes in West Milford and other parts of NJ. The place is new, there are some things that need to be fine tuned but the food is well conceived and well presented. Service can be a bit slow, however it is honest and definitely NOT pretentious. This place is an asset to the community and a chance for a family and others to earn a living and satisfy a need providing decent fresh food as an alternative to most of the sludge served at some other local eateries
