Light Horse Tavern

Driving around the area and had no idea what we wanted to eat. The huge windows and dim light attracted us to this place. We ordered a dozen oysters that were absolutely delicious! Kudos to our waiter for listening to my likes and dislikes with oysters and recommending perfect choices. I ordered a Cider Glazed Pork Chop over grits, collard greens and black eyed peas. Super delicious and good to the last drop! Everything worked so well together. My boyfriend order the skirt steak over jalapeno polenta, which was also very tasty. If you're looking for a place to eat and you're in the area, this cozy place will definitely hit the spot.
Beautiful restaurant with a balcony seating area. Fireplaces in the winter are a welcome addition and the food is delicious. Bar area is charming as well with a great selection of spirits, wines and beers. Not a destination to go to for a drink with friends, but great for dinner with a small group or a date. The neighborhood is beautiful and worth a walk before or after your meal.
Great Calimari Salad!
Very few items on the menu. But all class apart. Even the simple soup is fantastic and service is exemplary.
We had a Saturday brunch at Lighthorse Tavern after it was highly recommended by a co-worker as a great, dog-friendly brunch in Jersey City. We brought our four legged friend to the tables outside where the three of us enjoyed people watching on the sidewalk and made several friends as their owners walked by. Though we sat outside, the inside had a great ambiance and felt like a colonial manor house and was very welcoming. Service was very good and they even brought a bowl of water for our dog. The servers were very friendly and even though we were outside, checked on us often and never kept us waiting long. The brunch drink staples of a bloody mary and bellini were very good and were quite refreshing while sitting outside. We ended up ordering the juevos rancheros and the bbq corned beef hash. The hash was fantastic, sweet and savory, and more of a brisket than hash. The juevos rancheros came in a neat little skillet and were very refreshing with the fresh avacado. The portion sizes were nice too as they were plenty to be filling, but not enough to make you sick like many brunches. We enjoyed the atmosphere so much we decided to sip some cappuccinos while we continued to watch the street and down to the harbor.
