I came to O'Neill with my boyfriend over St. Patrick's Day. We visited Tia Zia and were pleasantly surprised after reading the reviews. The place was packed but we found a place to sit right away and a waitress was immediately at our table, taking our drink order. She was very busy with other customers but made time to bring our drinks back quickly and was very friendly. After we ordered, we were told to help ourselves to the chips and salsa bar, which was well stocked with many condiments. It was a nice surprise to have a large selection of salsas, which you don't get at many restaurants. They have an amazing sauce they call Ranchero, a mix between Ranch and picante salsa. AMAZING! Also, we were able to go back and have as much as we wanted, so the wait for the food didn't seem long at all. Once the food arrived, the portions were large, the plates looked nice, and the waitress was very helpful, asking us if we needed anything else. The food tastes awesome; it's definitely not authentic Mexican, but they don't claim to be- it's Tex Mex at it's finest. After our meal, we visited the bar downstairs called the Corkscrew. The bartender told us it had only opened last August, and it was beautiful downstairs. All the tables and the bar are made out of wine barrels and cedar, and the bartender said a local carpenter had made almost everything down there by hand. They have all Nebraska wines, microbrews, and a full bar. It was nice to see something like this in a small town; a cozy little place to get a drink after a great dinner. We had a great time in O'Neill for St. Pats, and were really glad we didn't pass up Tia Zia based on reviews online.

nasty nasty nasty!! we had a party in the back room and got a glimpse of the kitchen, food all over the floor, no one washes their hands, dirty water sitting around, no hair nets are worn, you can draw pictures in the grease on the floor or the shelves we saw. sloppy service...i know you shouldn't judge people by how they look, but some of the staff look like they just got out of jail. their clothes are dirty. i witnessed a table out front being cleaned off in the front dining area and i saw a fork from a dirty table go back in with clean forks. And I also witnessed them taking the cupped sauces off a dirty table and putting them back in the fridge. needless to say....after what i witnessed.....i didn't order anything....not even a drink. everyone says it's a home town favorite, it's a hometown horror story. their "buffet" doesn't have much food on it and the buffet itself and the floor around it looked like it had NOT been cleaned in YEARS!! The walls in this area look like someone had a foodfight about ten years ago and no one cleaned up afterwards.....not very clean or sanitary. I do NOT know how this restaurant stays open...except maybe lies on lies....?! I've also been told their food is made up one or two weeks ahead of time, then they heat it on a warming table type of thing, and then throw your food in a microwave (this is hear say, so i dont know how true this is). And that's what I pay for?? GROSSSSS!!

Nothing worse than white Mexican food a tv dinner has more flavor. The restaurant was messy and nacho bar disgusting. No pride of ownership.
