The Classic Family Restaurant

Guaranteed to satisfy your "home cooking" appetite. Great fried chicken, the best pork chops, melt in your mouth biscuits, perfectly seasoned vegetables and delicious desserts. You'll leave full, satisfied and rubbing your tummy. I love to mix corn and cucumber salad... it's allll that!!! I drive from Lexington, NC at least once a month to sit and dine or to get a to go plate. Either way, you'll be glad you went to The Classic.
This was my first time coming here. I waited all day long saving my appetite to come on a Friday night, and "PIG OUT"! Much to my surprise, it was a big disappointment, and left me wanting to "RUN OUT" instead! The staff were all very nice, and accommodating, but the food left MUCH to be desired! My first plate I started with Meatloaf (under cooked and COLD) didn't eat it, Green Beans (nothing special; they tasted like beans from a tin can!), Cabbage (tasted like they put sugar in them; LUKEWARM), and Collard Greens (again, nothing special, just plain from a can!). The next trip up to the buffet I decided to take my chances on the soup (it was potato), but looked like it too came from a can, and looked so unappetizing I decided to pass! I ended up getting a bowl of cottage cheese with some tinny tasting peaches on top from the "salad bar". What kind of restaurant serves SHREDDED LETTUCE for their salad? This joint does! Gotta give me credit though, I managed to survive the cottage cheese and peaches, but I was still hungry! I went up for dessert which consisted of strawberry "cobbler", peach "cobbler", and the dreaded banana pudding with the cheap Nilla wafers on top. Not much of a choice there... They had an assortment of what looked like instant pudding pies sitting in a case for who knows how long! I placed my bets on the strawberry "cobbler"; BIG MISTAKE! Right after I dished it into the little STYROFOAM bowl that was provided I noticed a HAIR in it! And as you probably guessed... I didn't eat that either! I was going to give the mashed potatoes a chance, but after striking out so many times already, I played it safe, and just gave up! The majority of the food choices here were things you can easily prepare at home out of a tin can! NOTHING fresh, or homemade (at least not to my taste buds)! The meat choices were fried chicken, dry looking chopped up ham, bacon strips, and some kind of mystery meat in what looked like cream of chicken soup! $10.60 is too much to pay for slop, oh, and that price DOESN'T even include the drink (So I had water!) The cashier lady was very nice and apologetic when I told her how disappointed I was in the food & about the hair in the dessert. (Hopefully they threw out the pan of it; being it was contaminated!) Needless to say I will not be frequenting this establishment ever again. Another reviewer stated how they are from the city, and they didn't like this kind of food. Don't get me wrong; I LIKE this kind of food, but I don't think it's coincidence that we both had a negative experience here. When food is undercooked, served cold/lukewarm when it should be steaming hot, has hair in it, and tastes like it came from a tin can, that's a fact; not an opinion!
Hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had in NC. Fresh homemade creamed potatoes, fried okra, green beans, cabbage, and the fried chicken...wow the fried chicken. It's amazing and definitely worth a visit. Great service, the place is very clean. I will be back!!!!!
Number one country buffet in North Carolina. Excellent fried chicken and perfect desserts. Everything is obviously homemade - Fantastic homemade mashed potatoes! If you like southern cuisine come here, you will be back for more! Cash only.
Excellent home cooking, best burgers in town, great pizza, all with top notch service with a smile. You won't regret the visit. Bring cash.
