Scranton's Restaurant
Reviews
I have eaten here three times and have yet to get a good meal. We were disappointed in the size of the poboys and they were not as ordered. Food was not hot another time and bland. The service was slow though friendly. I will say that I have never been there in the evening. I have family that goes there in the evening and they love the steaks. So maybe it depends on when you go.
Scranton's is great. HUGE hamburger. They get my vote for the best Hamburger on the whole Mississippi Gulf Coast. Oh, get the po-boy.
Nice small place to get a good plate of food. It is also a great getaway from the stereotypical chain restaurants that populate the rest of the coast.
This is our landmark hometown restaurant. Much history lies on the grounds and the owners are committed to maintaining the integrity of the history. Great menu, good service, and delightful atmosphere are to be expected. If available, go for the "Fish In A Bag" dish ... it's their trademark dish! Nostalgic town-hall style banquet room, complete with old firehouse decorum. Catering services are top-notch!
Scranton's can be good one day and bad the other. Service is the main issue typically, but occasionally it can be the food. On one visit I had a decent spinach salad and service was fine, the next visit the ingredients in the same salad did not seem fresh and were slathered in dressing. The chicken parmesan po boy is one of the highlights of the menu while the grouper plate at lunch is a mildly healthy alternative with cole slaw and fresh veggies (albeit served with a side of butter).
