Concert hall and Barrel
Reviews

We (five of us) had lunch at the Concert Hall today (March 20, 2015) and the food was excellent. Even with no wait help the manager/owner did a superb job. Our drinks came out very soon after we ordered them and the food was delivered hot and tasted great. The fish sandwich, slaw, and potato salad were all very good. No complaints only praise for this place and especially for the owner/manager who did all the work except cook.

The food was decent, nothing to write home about, and our waitress was very helpful and attentive, but it wasn't her fault the evening was ruined. Hermann is a major tourist attraction for a large part of the Midwest, but the manager seems to think the town's proximity to St. Louis means only St. Louis folk come to his bar. The night we were there, we had a table of Florida fans sitting next to us, waiting for the Gators' season opener, and three other TVs around the bar had the Cubs-Cardinals baseball game. We're from Kansas City. The Royals were hosting the Indians in the midst of a pennant race, and we asked the waitress if the set across from us could be changed to that game. The answer came back a few minutes later -- "Nobody wants us to change it." Excuse me, but my wife and I are not "nobody!" We wanted it changed, but apparently we didn't count. I've never seen a restaurant refuse to accommodate a customer who wanted a certain game put on one TV set -- until that night. We ate quickly so we could go back to our suite and watch the game. As we were leaving, we discovered the drunk at the end of the bar and his drinking buddy who didn't want that TV changed is Hoyt, the manager. He sat there all the time we were there like a toad on a stool. No one would have guessed he was a manager. He paid not one whit of attention to his customers or his staff -- other than to tell them not to change the channel of "his TV." (By the way, one of the other two TVs with the Cubs-Cardinals game was at the other end of the bar, less than fifteen feet away, plus one in the dining area. Maybe he'd grown roots to that bar stool and couldn't move, I don't know.) Since the food isn't that great, and other than our waitress the service appeared to be pretty spotty, I'd say, if you're considering this bar and grill -- DON'T!! There are much better, much more friendly places down the street.

What a neat old place! Great beer, good food, and the waitress (Roz), could not have been any nicer! Patio seating could use a little work but plenty of inside tables to sit at.
