Iven's On the Bay
Reviews
I have dined at this restaurant numerous times. I typically dine at Iven's with an elderly guest that uses either a wheelchair or a walker. The staff at Iven's On The Bay go out of their way to accommodate my friend everytime. The food is phenomenal! I have always had excellent service here, and will continue to be a customer of this restaurant. With that being said, previous reviews regarding an incident with a service dog are very one sided. I'm guessing that those who left reviews have not dined at this restaurant. As for citing the St. Cloud Times article, there is another article which could have been cited from the Brainerd Dispatch, but wasn't. This was published in the Brainerd Dispatch on July 15th, 2014: "We dined at Iven’s on the evening of June 27, 2014, with four guests visiting from out of town and were present during the incident. We had not been to Iven’s for a year and made reservations long in advance. During the course of our dinner, it became obvious that a woman representing a party without a reservation was becoming increasingly upset and speaking loudly with the restaurant host. The woman and a man then entered the main dining room and loudly stated they were asked to leave. Someone eating in the restaurant calmly addressed the woman, saying “In the meantime, we’re here trying to enjoy dinner.” At that point the woman speaking in the dining room walked past her table and loudly stated ”Stick it in your ear lady,” then abruptly left the dining room. There were several people who clapped in the dining room, but in no way was there a standing ovation! It was clear that the party with the dog was inflexible and only interested in making a scene and embarrassing Iven’s. The manager on duty at Iven’s should be applauded. He tried to do everything he could to accommodate the party with the alleged service dog. We have dinner around the Brainerd area many times with people who have special needs. They all have proper identification and call ahead make reservations and talk with the managers and chefs to make the accommodations. Never once has there been a problem. This incident would not have occurred had that party called ahead and talked with management at Iven’s. As a result everyone’s dining was affected that evening." So before you count this restaurant out on accusations from one person, keep in mind that this restaurant has upheld a 30 year tradition of making memories, providing excellent customer service, and serving fantastic food!
This place has good food and decent service, but I can't give any more of my money to a place that would throw a vet out because someone didn't like his service dog. Go down to the Brainerd American Legion Post 225 for dinner and support our vets.
Great Happy Hour everyday. The Halibut was a hit. A must visit
I don't know what happened. This has always been our favorite place for dinner. We have not been here for 1 year. We went on a Saturday night and our group of 6 were all equally disappointed with the food and the service. The food was only mediocre and the service fair, the ambiance was flat, there is no energy. I don't think our waitress smiled once. It was not busy at all, many empty tables. Normally it has been very busy on a Saturday night. We hardly saw our waitress. Every time we asked for something she seemed put off. I have recommended this restraunt to everyone I know, I won't anymore and I will think twice about going back. The house salad was flavorless. Wild rice soup pretty good. Beef medallions cooked well but not much flavor. The seafood in the paella was good but the paella itself was not good at all. I hope they can revive what they had before.
My boyfriend and I recently got engaged and went to Iven's to celebrate last Friday. Although the food and drinks were fabulous our service was not. The host was rude when we asked for a window seat. He told us it would be a half an hour wait but didn't mention the available table on the patio. The waitress was very slow and it took 20 minutes for her to get a beer from the bar. Other tables with different waitresses were visited numerous times and had minimal wait time. The table next to us with four adults were seated 20 minutes after us and received their appetizers, drinks and food before we did (same waitress). A large group of people were also seated so close to us that the waitress and buss boys practically had their butts in our face wile filling water glasses. Our table was bumped into several times because the path between tables was so narrow. I sent an email to Iven's about our experience and haven't received a response yet. I would like to return but am skeptical due to our service the first time.
