I drove by this place a hundred times when I was in college and I never stopped there. Last weekend we went there for dinner at the recommendation of local friends. First, the legendary Copper Country fall colors were in full swing. It was a great drive up there from Houghton. From the outside the place looks small and kind of run down, but don't let that fool you. It's 1950's motel architecture on a sand beach right on Lake Superior. The waves lap right at the foot of the deck. The weather and sand are hard on the building. Being old, it's not very accessible. You have to go up and down a few steps to get into the restaurant. It was too cold and windy for the deck, so we didn't get to sample that. At the recommendation of our local friends, we all had the BBQ beef brisket and it was fantastic. Good portions, very good sauce served on the side so you can use as much or little as you want (you have a choice of four different sauces), and very good taste. Tender, lean, very flavorful. The best I've ever had. I understand they smoke it right on the property. The sides were very well done too, you had a choice from among five. The lake side of the restaurant is a line of picture windows with a view of the lake. We were seated right at a window. For informal entertainment there was a parachute surfer out on the lake doing jumps and runs. This was not part of the establishment but was still interesting to watch. While a party of two might be able to walk in, reservations for a larger party are strongly recommended. It's a small place and very popular. We will be back when in the area.

Mark is brilliant. Beer selection is second to none. Accommodations were beautiful. Sunsets on the beach to boot

Incredible place in a beautiful atmosphere. Rooms are simple and pleasant, the food and drink is extremely high quality, and the location is truly gorgeous. This place is an unexpected gem on the beaches of Lake Superior, the UP is not known for it's high cuisine but these guys have big-city standards in a small-town environment. I loved it!

Yummy fresh food. Good options for vegetarians and carnivores. Great BBQ. Huge beer selection. Rooms are clean, wood floors, white walls, windows opening up to Lake Superior. Super friendly staff.
