The Pines Sports Bar & Bowling Center
Reviews
The Pines pizza is one of the best in town. They do have the best cheese bread anywhere... hands down. The staff and management are willing to work with you if you have a large party coming in and it is a great place to meet for watching the game. Highly recommended.
The Pines could and should be so much better, they have lots of TVs, but the service is slow and the waitresses are rude. Pizza is pretty good. In the past year, I've been there 3 times... but I doubt I'd go again. They have seating for about 200, and the place was virtually empty each time. Hmmm, wonder why? Last time was for a Lions football game. I had to plead with the waitress to turn the sound up, we couldn't hear it. She claimed that if she did it would interfere with the NY Giants game that was also on!! Wow, really, are we in New York?? So my wife and I finally moved to a different table underneath one of the speakers, and then still struggled to hear. The bowling lanes are OK, so, go there if you want to bowl, otherwise, I recommend The Party Lounge in downtown Cadillac.
I have been patronizing the Pines since I was a young boy. The service was always slow, but the pizza was always pretty decent. Not the best pizza ever but the best pizza in the Cadillac area. Yesterday I took my wife and two children to the Pines for bowling and a pizza. This would be the my first experience since the new owners have taken over. First we were assigned a lane that had pins laying in the gutter. When my wife asked the young man behind the counter about the pins he switched us to the lane next to us. After programming everyones names into the computer we quickly found that the computer was not keeping proper score. No matter what you bowled it showed a spare or a strike. It would even show a strike before the person threw the ball then it would skip to the next bowler before the person even had a chance to bowl. My wife went to the counter to ask the young man who was working there what we were supposed to do. He was clearly frustrated and rudely responded that we were going to have to deal with it. He said that this happens all the time and that we should "just bowl and not worry about it" He must have realized after the fact that he was rude cause he came over and yet again switched us to another lane. The new lane was not keeping correct score either. All this and we were only on the 4th frame. Finally the pizza arrived and it was absolutely disgusting. The crust was limp and not even close to being cooked. The cheese was like a solid piece of wax. When you picked up the pizza water poured out from under the cheese. I am willing to bet that this pizza was frozen at one time and was left to thaw and get mushy before it was put in the oven. After a eating a small piece I decided that I needed to wash the horrible taste from my mouth....only to find that our sodas tasted and smelled worse than the pizza. The sodas tasted and smelled like rotten eggs. The waitress warned us not to get Pepsi because it was bad and that many people complained. She suggested we get rootbeer...which we did. I can only imagine what the Pepsi tasted like. I then went to the men's room in the bowling alley and it was filthy. I am a construction worker and often am forced to use a porta john. If I had a choice between the men's room at the Pines or using a porta john I would hands down choose the porta john. I can understand the restrooms being dirty after a Saturday night, but this was 1 hour after opening on a Sunday morning. The restrooms are clearly not cleaned on a regular basis. My wife shared similar stories about the ladies room. Our waitress was the ONLY good thing I can say about our experience. She was friendly and very attentive. My wife and I became frustrated with the bowling lanes situation and quit after the 7th frame. My wife asked the rude young man if we were supposed to pay for the bowling after all the inconveniences and he scowled "NO". He never once said sorry about that or attempted to apologize. He just told us that was a common occurrence and that is just the way it is. He basically told us not to come back because management was aware of the issues and were not compelled to fix them. I travel a lot and eat out often. I have had some bad experiences in my travels but I have NEVER felt compelled to give an online review...good or positive. My hopes is that the new management gets a hold on these issues before they ruin someone else's family outing. I did not have to pay for the poor bowling experience but I still had to pay for my poor dining experience. The large pizza with two toppings and 2 sodas came to just under $20. Not a horrible price if it were edible, but a crime for the product that I received.
I went there for a bowling tournament and it was very well ran. I thought the facility was very clean. Food was good too. Looking forward to going back.
This is one of the friendliest places in Cadillac. The pizza is the best. The service is terrific! Any sport you would like to watch is on their multiple televisions. I would recommend this place for a fun, relaxing, and delicious time.
