Old Mill Pub
Reviews
Location is great, and the outdoor seating is beautiful, but that doesn't make up for the slow service and overpriced food. Food is good, but definitely overpriced
I used to go to the Old Mill Pub many times back in the 80's and 90's but have been away since until last June. I had a great table out on the porch overlooking the Skowhegan Dam on a sunny summer day. Even if we weren't lucky enough to grab an outside table, most of the inside tables also face the dam and the Kennebec River. It's a neat sight to behold which makes the place unique from other restaurants. The menu has been much improved from the old days, and is reflected in the quality of the food without being too over the top. It's still a pub after all. The only knock I give them is the slow service I experienced on that day and the price being a little on the high side. Other than that, a great place to eat.
The food is very expensive for what you get, the staff can present with an incredible amount of attitude, and it really feels like they cater to a group of good ole boys who frequent the bar. Considering the other choices in Skowhegan, dinner on the deck overlooking the Kennebec is the only thing going for this place. If it's important to you that you be treated with respect and that your food is prepared in a reasonable amount of time, and that it tastes good as well, find some place else. If you're looking for rude treatment and lousy food, this is the place for you.
The food is all prepackaged frozen stuff that they order from sysco. Hardly anything is made from scratch, and even their breads they have to order from a bakery. The service is slow and many of the people were rude. The manager was especially rude and unpleasant, and whenever confronted with something he didn't like or that wasn't good he became irate and unreasonable. The only good thing about the place is the view.
The only thing this pub has going for it is the decor and location. It's beautifully located overhanging the Kennebec River and the outside deck makes for a nice environment. However, the food is expensive, barely edible when sober, the service is incredibly slow and depending on your server can come with some attitude. I would reccomend that people go elsewhere.
