Broad Arrow Tavern

Amazing food! Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from, but some people have to find something to complain about, like limp salad. If you've ever eaten overseas, a chef licking his fingers is hardly a concern of mine. It is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Food is local/organic - that's huge. You can taste the difference. Hence the pricyness that people don't understand. You're paying more for fresh food. Wait staff was terrific, food tasted amazing, home cooked. Yes it took awhile but it was all fresh and tasted delicious, worth every penny. Great, homey, tavern feel. I grew up in Maine and there aren't a lot of establishments like this. Would definitely go again if I still lived in Maine! Worth a trip, especially if you like seafood.
Avoid. Not recommended. First off, the chowder was wonderful! Rich and creamy, Not overcooked and well seasoned. Things went steeply downhill from there. The Cesear salad was limp and flavorfless. Huge and tiny pieces.of limp romaine made the unpleasant task of eating the salad difficult. The crabcakes were the next dissappointment. Dougy and not quite warmed through is not the way I prefer the dish. But then, I also like to be able to taste and see the crab in a crabcake. I thought I did see a tew fibers that might have come from a crab sticking out of the edge of one bite. The downward spiral continued with the steamer clams. Tired and broken was how they looked when brought to the table - and that was the best part. The flavor was just ok but almost every clam came with a large serving of grit. So unpleasant that we did not finish. The open kitchen concept did not work too well for the, as we watched the cook stick his fingers into the food and lick them to taste and then put the freshly licked fingers right into the next meal. I have to assume ours was not a typical experience, but it was our experience.
My favorite place EVER!!! The tavern buffet is the best! We love going here!!!! I highly recommend you visit and remember, visit the tavern!!!!
Not sure where all the great reviews came from, my visit lacked the "Wow" factor I had expected from an Inn of this caliber. Many better choices to spend your hard earned money.
Another wonderful trip the the Harraseeket Inn and the Broad Arrow Tavern. Was nice to see the familiar faces and some new faces as well. Good to see Rhonda at the bar, and our waitress Celeste and Mary Ann behind the line. I always have the lobster stew, best in the State in my opinion. My wife got the crab cakes, also the best in the State. I was thrilled that there is a traditional seafood paella on the menu. It came loaded with steamers, lobster, sausage and mussels with a nice crispy baguette to sop up the wonderful broth. I admit I was a little envious of my wife's choice of the jumbo Maine lobster roll. A full 12 inch roll filled to the top with nice chunks of fresh lobster meat. The menu listed it as the traditional cold lobster roll with mayo. My wife prefers hers toasted with the lobster meat sauteed in butter which they happily obliged. It was neat the that couple next to us saw it and both ordered the same thing. Truly delicious and a great price. Next time I'm ordering that. The one thing that has always standed out from the Tavern is their ice cream. I'm astonished how good it is. Better than any I've ever tasted. I'm told it is made fresh on site with very few ingredients and huge on flavor. It's amazing how good they can make simple vanilla ice cream taste. I went with the Turtle sundae, one of their signature items. My wife is a fan of the root beer float. We noticed earlier on that there was this great stone firepit out by the patio. Our server said it's for our guests to enjoy so we wandered over and kicked back by the fire. Celeste said the inn provides marshmallows, smores kits, and popcorn for the guests to roast over the fire. We passed on that as we were already more than full. The crackling fire was the perfect ending to the evening. We can't wait to return. Hopefully when it's nice enough to dine at the patio.
