Russell House Tavern
Reviews
Met a friend here for Sunday brunch. We were seated at the downstairs bar. Fair price foe the excellent ambiance & attentive service, and fancy food. Breakfast pizza was delicious; the stuffed french toast was just alright. Will be back again.
The Russell House Tavern is one of our favorite restaurants in Cambridge. Their “grass-fed” burger is eight ounces of juicy ground beef topped with sharp cheddar cheese, tender slices of bacon and caramelized onions served on a Stone and Skillet English muffin that happily absorbs all of the beef’s savory goodness. As an alternative to this delicious burger we usually opt for one of the crispy pizzas offered with a variety of enticing toppings or the House Charcuterie Board, a platter of chicken liver pâté, smoked fish and smoked pork rillettes plus several slices of very tasty house-cured meats. There is also plentiful selection of draft beers that includes one of my favorites— a creamy stout ale that is tastier and richer than any stout I have ever had and that includes Guinness. The wine list is strictly American plus “Wines on Tap” from the Finger Lakes region of New York State that are served by the glass or carafe which always adds a little panache to whatever we are having. The Russell House Tavern is one restaurant that we always look forward to going back to whenever we are in Cambridge.
We sat downstairs at the bar and it was beautiful. If I could afford to eat out everyday I might do it here (if I also wasn't the type of person who always wants to go somewhere new). Staff were friendly and told us which menu items were new as it had just changed for winter the week prior. He did say, that the alwayssunny would always be on the menu though. I had already ordered it and was loving it when I could see why. And so pretty too. I just got an appetizer because we were going to a Yelp Elite event after and we didn't want to go starving so I got the deviled eggs because of the olive tapenade (which I've been in love with recently). Little did I know we'd have deviled eggs at the event, so in all that day I ate about 4 whole eggs. Oh well. Protein! (?) They were delicious though! My friend got a burger in and fries and I was sticking the fries in the leftover tapenade (couldn't get it all on the eggs) but they also had pesto on top along with fried shallots. Perfect. The fries on their own were really good too, but the mayo that came with them was great as well.
Love this place! They have an extensive drinks menu and take serious pride in the quality of everything they serve. The atmosphere was relaxing, even during a full house and the food was very well prepared. I had the deviled eggs, not your average deviled eggs these are special, and the chickpea dish; both superb. My friend had the pork belly sandwich and couldn't praise it enough. Also, on another note the house made ginger beer is a must try!
Russell House is your classic Burger, Beer, Cocktail gastropub. It may be the best burger in Boston, I always try burgers wherever I go, but I keep coming back here. Fresh Ground Beef, sharp cheddar, smoked bacon, caramelized onion all on top of a English muffin (crazy, I know) and then add some fresh cut fries on the side and you got yourself a meal. They also have hidden burgers (ask), but frankly the burger on the menu is the best. They usually have a solid beer selection, but their cocktails are damn solid as well. They make a mean orange Manhattan....respect.
