Four Roses Distillery LLC
Reviews
Decent tour. Short, but informative. You go through one building and see similar to what you would on any of the rest of the KY Bourbon Trail distilleries. The tasting room is very neat, and it was good to sample all 3 kinds of their main product: Four Roses Yellow Label, Small Batch, and Single Barrel. One of the dudes at the check-in counter needs a crank on the personality scale, but other than that, decent experience. Nice grounds.
I've been to several distilleries - the staff here are amazing. As one of the only distilleries to still offer freshly used barrels to the public, they get what Buffalo Trace doesn't. When the market begins to dry up for used barrels in the hot sauce and beer secondary market, customers who were turned away by other distilleries will remember being placed first by Four Roses. Add to that the fact that the tour guides even show the exact mash bill, to include the types of yeast - well that my friends is called inclusion. Customer service at it's peak! I will be back often and will be a loyal customer.
Great tour guide, excellent tasting, and a complimentary glass, great time
I hope this place never changes. I have been to 9 (yes 9) of the distilleries in KY 3 times now. If you are looking to a unique, hands-on tour of a distillery, and you are a whiskey fan like myself this is 'the one' to see. The tour starts with a small informational video to give you a general understanding of the process. After that the tour takes you onto and through the grated platforms the distillers use on a day to day basis. It is amazing to get to see the whiskey making process up-close and personal. There are even a few small displays of cut-away equipment so when the tanks are closed and being used you can still understand and see what is going on inside. This is a fully functioning distillery so if you don't head the warnings and touch a tank that is hot you will be scolded (literally). I recommend the small batch. This whiskey is a sweeter whisky with nodes of plums and floral aromas. It is used to make the best Manhattan I have ever had at Fleming’s restaurant.
Of the five distilleries I visited on my trip this one was one of my least favorite. Maybe it was because they were just ramping up production but I felt like it wasn't very unique. The tour started with a talk and video in a room near the gift shop then a quick tour of the distillery followed by a brief tasting of two of the spirits. It's worth checking off the list but not worth seeing if you're short on time.
