To preface this review, in addtion to monthly visits on the part of our entire family, my husband consumes Dairy Queen chicken strips a minimum of once per week; to say he is familiar with DQ fare is an understatement. Patronizing the Onawa, IA location it was immediately obvious to him the chicken strips served there are not DQ chicken strips, they had an altogether different appearance and lacked the flavor resulting from DQ's marinating process. The accompanying toast was not Texas toast as advertised. The honey-mustard dipping sauce was not DQ honey-mustard sauce, not a thick, pale yellow with flecks of brown but almost straight-up mustard, and watery. My flavorless bacon cheeseburger arrived on a generic bun and was so well rehydrated as to be borderline pâté. To top off the experience, even some of the food containers didn't bear the DQ brand: our daughter's chicken strips arrived in a cup clearly marked "Dixie" and my husband's chicken strip basket might be found at the average concession stand. We *thought* offering consistent food across franchises was standard practice. To sell an inferior product under the DQ name is to rip off customers.

I went there the other night to get supper for my husband and myself. I ordered two chicken strip dinners. (one 6 piece and one 4 piece) I also ordered a couple of other things. The order came to almost $30.00. When I got home, I did not have any gravy in with the chicken dinners. (as shown on the picture on the sign) This is not the first time this has happened, so this time I drove back out there (about 3 miles) and drove thru the drive thru. Told the person on the other end that I did not get any gravy with my meals. They said did you order it. I said no one asked me what kind of sauce I wanted with them but the picture shows that it comes with the meal. They told me to pull around to the window. When I got up there, the guy says, now whats the problem? (in not so friendly tone) So I told the story over again. He says did you ask for gravy? I again told him that no one had asked me what kind of sauce I wanted with my meals, but that the picture on the sign shows the meal with gravy. He says, you don't have to harass me, I just take the orders. If you have any complaints you need to go to the site on the computer and complain. I said I ordered two chicken strip dinners that show they have gravy with them on the sign and spent almost $30.00, I think I should be able to get gravy with them. He left and came back with one little container half full. I said I ordered two meals, I need two gravy. He said you know these aren't free, I am just giving you this to make you happy. If you want another one, you will have to pay for it. Again, I said I need two gravy for two meals. He left again and this time gave me two half filled containers. By this time.....our meals were cold....I will have to be really hungry before I go back here again.

Super friendly staff

My wife, myself and our two kids went in there today 7-7-11 at around 1:15pm, and we stood there till 1:25pm and not once did someone say anything to us. Not even, "We'll be right with you" or anything. They were making stuff for the drive through and other customers who were waiting at a table, walking back and forth right in front of us, and said nothing. I've only got a half an hour lunch break, so after waiting ten minutes standing there like idiots, we left. Weird thing is they saw us leave, and still didn't say anything. They weren't even very busy. They might have great food, but I'll never know, even though I drive though Onawa several times a week for business.
