Worst meal I have ever had, only to be made worst by the deplorable customer service. If the kitchen over cooks for $25 ribeye, which was a 1/4 inch thick breakfast steak, don't send it back, or there will be hell to pay!! The server left the well-done steak on the table while she asked for a new one to be cooked. The line cook came out to the table to 'see the steak' because he has never had one sent back before. STILL leaves the first steak just sitting there. Ten mintues later, the new steak comes out, slightly less over cooked and half gristle and fat and no flavor at all. I watched our server pull my green beans out of the freezer and put them into the microwave and the baked potato tasted as if it had been slow roasted for about 12 hours. The two older women that work there have the personality and charm of a viper. They couldn't muster a smile to save their lives. They treated us like we were the enemy, even though we were spending almost $100 in this horrible establishemnt. Not once during our meal did any 'manager' type person come to check on us. The only apologises we got were from our young server and the young line cook. I still paid $25.00 for the worst steak in America. I could get the same steak at IHOP, served with eggs, for $8.99!!! What a joke. Worse yet, no one there seems to give a crap. Since our experience, I have read several reviews about their rude service and horrible food. Clearly, the owners simply don't care. What a shame, as the location is beautiful and the front room was a lovely space. Really hope someone at Doug's gets a clue. Bad food AND horrible service are the kiss of death.
RUDEST SERVER EVER!!! We had a party of six ready to drop $200 on a birthday dinner. I ordered a beer while we looked at the menu. Curiously, all the menu listings for the dinner items were for "market price", and there was no board or sign to say what that might be. After pointedly ignoring us while clearing the next table, the server finally came back to take our order. When we asked about the "market prices" on the menu, she acted very put out, and stabbed at the menu with her finger - "THIS is $19.95 and THIS is $25.95 and THIS is $18.95..." without saying what the items were for others at the table. Then she said "I'll come back later!" and turned on her heel and left. Well that was enough for us to decide to take our business elsewhere, not to mention the grossly over-inflated "market prices". We got up to leave and asked how much for the beer, and she YELLED across the room "Just keep it!", and then YELLED at us some more as we left! DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS ESTABLISHMENT unless you want to be treated RUDELY and made to feel STUPID for asking about prices that are NOT PRINTED ON THE MENU! Take your business up the street to the Riverview Cafe where the servers don't have an attitude and the food is probably better anyway.
Doug's is now Soda's. Bought out by a new owner. I've heard it is awesome, although have not tried yet. Hope you try it and let us know if you're reading this! :-)
The food is to die for. I suggest getting the out east sandwich and sweet potato fries. The chicken wings with the midwest sauce are killer too. The ambience inside makes Dougs a real gem in this small town. I love this place!
