Martini's Grille

Best view in town, but food/service can be iffy (at times) for the price. Rated the food as very good mostly for the excellent drink selection/quality.
Awesome view! We dined here for our anniversary, I ordered the Chicken Piccata which was okay and my husband had a seafood plate that was LAUGHABLE considering the price! He had about 2 shrimps and 3 scallops! We shared a cake/cheesecake dessert which was STILL FROZEN but we enjoyed our time chipping away at it while waiting for it to thaw. It wasn't until we got home and started looking at the pictures that we discovered that they had served our dessert on an UPSIDE DOWN PLATE! How does that happen? We didn't notice it because we were having a good time, trying to enjoy our anniversary. Is that some new "upscale" dining thing or the people in the back being intentional a$$holes? We would have returned if not for that.
I asked a friend of mine to choose a nice restaurant as I was coming into town for my daughter's birthday. Being new to Burlington himself, he was told Martini's was the place to go. So we did. We were very impressed with the place itself, pretty, nice ambience, beautiful view of the river bridge, everything seemed to going quite well. Server was prompt and pleasant. We ordered our meals, and then the disappointment set in. I ordered a rib eye steak, medium, I have eaten a lot of steaks in my day, and this one was BY FAR the WORST ever. Like rawhide. My daughter ordered the Carbonara, again, awful. The pasta was so overcooked it was literally mush. My friend ordered the seared tuna, yes he is a large man, but his portion was that of a small appetizer, and our other guest ordered the Chicken Lips, his statement was, "I could have gotten that at Buffalo Wild Wings, only better." Even the only small loaf of bread for all of us would have been better served as a dunking stick in a nice french onion soup. We laughed because the serrated knife they supplied barely cut it. I'm not certain what our last guest thought of her meal, but her plate was still quite full when I server removed it from our table. THE ONLY THING that somewhat saved our night was the ice cream desert we got in honor of the Birthday occasion. It had a makeshift large sparkler in it that was lit and rather fun to watch until it burned out, and then it was just Neapolitan ice cream with an Oreo crust. I understood the prices were what I considered on the up side, but I assumed with premium prices we would receive a premium meal. NOT! After an 18% gratuity automatically included we topped out at nearly $300.00. SUPER DISAPPOINTED IN EVERY WAY! Will not return nor ever recommend. Oh and P.S., of this price only 3 alcoholic beverages were purchased and they were beer. Dismal Failure.
The view & atmosphere at Martini's is amazing! The martini's can not be beat. I've tried martini's at numerous places across the county, places known for great martini's in large metro areas and none nearly as yummy as the ones here at Martini's Grille in Burlington, IA. It is much fun sampling all the different kinds and they do not go lite on the alcohol yet they don't have strong vodka taste. They use fresh ingredients that are made in house such as simple syrup and fresh squeezed lemons instead of the bottled crap most places use. The menu is currently undergoing a transformation. I was very sad to see a few of my favorite items recently removed from the menu, however, am excited to try out some of the new items that are being added.
When a person orers pasta, one is serve pasta. My daughter in law an myself ordered the same pasta plate, "Fruits the Sea" which was to include shrimp, scallops, & crab. We each had 3 baby scallops, 9 salad shrimp (rubber) an imitation crab flakes. Menu state a creamy sauce not oily. Did not mention sun drie tomatoes, however we had sun dried tomatoes. There was a GLOB of cheese on top. Cream with seafood yes NO CHEESE! Husband orered a flat iron he received a New York Strip. We have enjoyed times at Martini's Grille, however I dislike to say this. We will not be returning, this breaks my heart. We want quality in our food, not the awful meal we ha last night 02/09/2013.
