We arrived here almost at closing time on our way back from volcano national park with no other food place open, very tired and they still took our order and served the food. They could only offer certain food because only fryer was on so we ordered fries and chicken strips and I don't think I have seen any checken tenders with that much meat on it! Wow! In short great food and most importantly great customer service and great attitude! I rather give money to hard working nice people than McDonalds.
Stopped when we saw the advertisement that said "The southern most bar in the US". That being said, It is the Southern most bar in the 50 states. PR is not part of our statehood, rather our commonwealth. Anyways, great time, local atmosphere and friendly people all around. I enjoyed it throughly.
The ranch dressing was homemade and great. The honey dipped fried chicken taste a little better than kfc. Teriyaki chicken was good. The teriyaki burger was good. The chicken sandwich came on a hotdog bun. I had to ask for a refill on my drink 3 times.
We look forward to eating at Shaka's when ever we are on the Big Island. The owner and the staff are very welcoming and the food is great. Be ready to be taken back to the Hawaii of the 50's and enjoy the laid back atmosphere of this restaurant. We feel that if the locals eat at a restaurant, the food has to be good and we were right!
Get the shaka loco moco. Its been 2 days and I'm already missing it!
