Captain Jack's Stronghold

Great meal in the middle of nowhere! Makes a great place to eat when visiting Lava Beds. The meals are homecooked generous and delicious. Undertand that this restaurant is deep in rural Oregon which by default makes it meat-centric. Deserts are worth saving room for a delicous finish. Staff makes you feel very welcome.

Great value for some really yummy food. Salmon and steak both done perfectly. And the potatoes were delish. Wonderful small town feel. Felt like we were friends by the time we left.

Great pies, good foods, great service. This place is in the middle of nowhere, but it's worthy of a stop if you're by the Lava Beds National Monument near the Oregon side. I have a patty melt with french fries and the fries were delicious! The burger was good too, on grilled sourdough and swiss :-) The prices are good too, and they also have wines by the bottle/glass from nearby wineries.

This place is absolutely wonderful. I am from the east coast, but I plan on returning to Tulelake, CA just to eat here again. We came here twice during our visit to Lava Beds National Monument and both times were extremely enjoyable. The second night we came in five minutes before closing, fully expecting to be turned away and forced to eat our stale road snacks for dinner, but the friendly waitstaff welcomed us in and the chef even played the didgeridoo for us! Do not miss the desserts, either. They have the best pies. Even the photos on the walls are amazing. The chef is also a photographer and some of his pictures of the area are on display. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

One of the best places I've eaten - anywhere - and it's in the middle of - nowhere! Great bird watching, hunting, spelunking area . . . but worth the trip just for the food. Proprietor Marietta is a perfectionist and can often be found in the kitchen baking pies. Speaking of pies - don't miss out - save room for dessert. You won't find pie like this anywhere else! Lot's of outdoor recreation nearby, and on the road to Reno from anywhere in Oregon, this restaurant is not to be missed. Skip Klamath Falls and head for Captain Jack's Stronghold. Oh ... I forgot to mention ... REAL chicken and dumplin's every Thursday night.
