Romano's Macaroni Grill
Reviews
The food is OK and the ambiance is nice (woody, dark and they have outside seating). We had two cocktails one (an old fashioned) was nice (if a bit too much ice) the other (an ultimate bellini) was laugh out loud bad (being mainly peach sludge without champagne). We did have an incredibly bad server. Our entrees came out 10 mins before the appetizers, we had to find our own cutlery and we were not offered a desert or coffee. Still, she was convinced of her own awesomeness, so at least one person was happy.
The food was devoid of even basic seasoning, the pasta was under cooked and the chicken was burnt. Rather than a slice of fresh cheese on the chicken parm they put a slice of presliced sandwich cheese on it. The staff appeared more interested in talking with each other or insulting one another than providing good service. The music and lighting though cliche were at least decent. I gave it another chance since I had a gift card... big mistake.
Exactly what you would expect from a national chain. The service varies based on how long the server has actually been doing the job and if they have had any experience some where else.
We have gone there since March 09 for an average of once a week (quite a bit)... I do like the food and the service (a few select servers are very good but know who to choose). We have had 4 instances where the food is luke warm to outright COLD when it should be hot (as in steaming hot). The management has been okay in responding but not to the degree of a high end restaurant where they immediately apologize and comp the entree or meal (right then or for a future visit). They did quickly fix the problem but it is the manner in which one apologizes and offers a solution in return. I would give this place the following ratings (1-5 where 1 is lowest and 5 is highest): FOOD - 3.5 SERVICE - 3.5 DECOR - 4 One more issue with the food and we will not return and let others know - vehemently!
We used to eat here all the time and loved it. The day before Mother's Day we ate here again after almost 8 months and the food was completely different and horrible. The bread which used to be awesome was dry and flavorless. The kid's macaroni and cheese had only enough cheese on it to harden the noodles together in a tasteless mass and they managed to ruin 4 cheese pizza. Maybe they are trying for healthier meals but it isn't necessary to give up taste in order to do it. We won't be going back again. Will probably try the new Italian place on Madera instead.
