Backwoods Inn

Visited this place this evening with a friend who said he had heard that they had really good food. When we arrived for supper we were the only customers in the place. He had pork chops with salad and baked potato and I had chopped steak, stuffed potato and salad. I did not eat half of my steak and potato and my friend did not eat even half of his potato. Had black berry cobbler for desert and it was WAY too sweet. My friend had German Chocolate cake and ate it all. Service was by a very nice lady who said she was 77 years old and was okay. Was not impressed and would not go back there again.
My wife and I found this place when we moved into the area. Despite a few bad reviews online, we decided to give it a shot--and I'm certainly glad we did. Folks, don't give too much credit to online reviews. Let's be honest, it's a way for people who had bad experiences to exact revenge on an establishment. Anyway, the steaks are fantastic with their woodfired flavor, the stuffed baked potatoes are as good as they say they are, and you have to try the Backwoods Coffee after dinner. Fantastic place, we've been back several times since.
This is our favorite steak house not.fancy just good food and service.
I have been living in the Santa Clarita Valley since 1977 and actually used to work here bussing tables as a teen, over 30 years ago. I have eaten here hundreds of times in the past and have always had good service along with a great steak/meal. I took my 20 year old daughter there for dinner tonight and was very disappointed ! My daughter ordered a $30 filet and asked for Medium and I ordered a Porterhouse medium rare. My steak came to the table and was medium well and my daughters steak was straight RARE. After taking it back twice to cook it, the steak came out butterflied and tasted like a bar-b-que grill. I ate mine, although I wanted it to be medium rare, it was more like well. The garlic cheese bread sat on the counter, until it was cold, which kinda sucked, as our salads were great, but could've been better with the garlic cheese bread that we watch sit on the counter, as our waitress passed by it several times. It was not crowded, so that was not an issue.... Not to mention, that I had to ask the bartender for a refill, because our waitress was too busy talking to another waitress. That's when I was informed by the RUDE bartender that they charge $1.00 for each refill. Who does that now-a-days ?? I will probably never go back and waste my money here, which is a bummer, given the history of the business and I like to support the mom and pop shops in town. I'll take my business to Black Angus, when I'm wanting a steak, they have great service and their food is very good. The Backwoods inn has a limited time to survive and by the vibe in the place, it won't be long, before they have to close their doors.
I have been going here since I can remember as I was am raised in Caxton Country 3rd generation. I love this place the drinks are great and the food used to be top notch. But the last couple times my family has gone there we have had poor poor service I am talking 15 min before they even come to our table. The last time we complained to the waitress and she got so mad at us she Never came back... the manager had to wait on us. When the food came it was not worth the 32.$ for the steak, the potato tasted like it was sitting all day... I do not mind taking my family of 4 to a nice restaurant that might caustic us over 100.$ with a drink or two on the bill. But I will say it will not be at the back woods in. Very sad as this is were my husband and I would go on dates when we were dating
