Cliff House Inn

Really nice staff and great restaurant. You have to walk down a flight of stairs to get to your room though and they were kind of musty. Toilets weren't vented so when you flushed it made a loud whistling noise. The view was awesome. Good value for the price.
Excellent view for the price. Unfortunately it was cloudy when I stayed, but I definitely want to come back on a clear night. I've stayed in similar roadside motels that couldn't even compare to this place. Room #4 was very clean. My only complaint was hitting my head on the ceiling fan, but if you're under six feet tall, you'll be fine. I greatly enjoyed the private balcony for guests. Mike and Becky were excellent hosts. They'll talk to you as little or as much as you'd like. I had breakfast in the restaurant before I left. It was decent. Really liked the ham steak.
After spending 16 years in the food service industry I instinctively notice good and bad dining experiences. Our Sunday(10/13/13) afternoon lunch here was disappointing. The appetizer was hot and fresh, though commercial, however the 'special' of the day was served just above room temperature. Being light eaters we had asked for a second plate to share the 'special' but had to get up twice to search for our server and/or extra plate. The 'special' was tasty, just wish it had been hot. The peach cobbler we chose for desert had 4 peach slices but had plenty of food starch sugar filling and pastry. The bill arrived with a 2.00 charge for an extra plate, so if you are watching your waist line they will charge you for it here. I politely suggested to the cashier(owner)that we found the $2.00 extra plate charge a bit tacky he quipped, "if you had eaten off the same plate there wouldn't have been a $2.00 charge." Really? The most noticeable thing for me were the long faces of the wait staff and host. None of them smiled or spent one extra word in conversation. Likely the result of being under paid and over worked-a plague of the industry. I would suggest a visit here should only include your camera, take your appetite somewhere else.
Did not have a chance to eat there place was packed But the drive to get there is great.
I come to Arkansas to visit family in Harrison about 5 times a year. I try to make it to the Cliff House each time for the view, the friendly staff and the pretty good food. They also have a jalapeno ketchup for sale in the gift shop that we buy. Worth the drive every time.
