Popular hostel/campsite on the Malawi circuit. I found it overpriced for camping, I guess that's what happens once you make it in to the lonely planet. The self catering kitchen was woefully inadequate, hot water in the shower was not guaranteed and the internet was very expensive to use. Come if you must but I don't think I would visit this place again.

Large and very crowded backpacker hostel with plenty of camping. Bar and apparently restaurant, although I never saw it in action. Stayed two days. Full of typical lively young backpacker crowd, including overlander buses. Pitches for individuals with vehicles are small (not really enough space to deploy a roof tent) and right next to the noisy bar area. On site mechanic a big disappointment; happy to promise anything, and took me to a third party garage who apparently had the right parts.... After 4 hours walking around looking for the parts they claimed to have, we only found one out of four. Paid over the top. Coerced into buying them beers to boot. Also ended up doing half the work on the car myself. Mechanic demanded a commission for his "efforts. " The camp is OK, but don't come here for any repair work.

An excellent Backpackers in Lilongwe. Would recommend it. Not expensive. Relaxed and a good standard of accommodation.

We were worried that this camp may be too "travellery" but we went and foudn it a brilliant place to stay. The accommodation is basic but they have the important things right. At least they charge you a basic price for the accom rather than promising better and paying for it but it still being basic. The food is good and reasonable. Brian, the guy kind of managing the place with the owners is great, really helpful. The place is in a secure compound and we realised that the children would be safe roaming the compound. In some guides and reviews we noticed that their could be an issue with noise. When we got there we realised that is because one of the dorms is right beside the lounge area and would be very noisy. We stayed in the "hippo" building which is separate from the main building and very quiet. All together 5 stars for cost, service and lifestyle. Darius
