Byron Freehouse
Reviews
I had been to Freehouse twice before for fish n chips which I will say were great. This particular evening, we had finished some Christmas shopping and decided to have dinner there. My husband ordered meat loaf and I order buttermilk fried chicken. My husbands meat loaf was disgusting had some weird texture to it, as he tried the next mouthful he realized that it wasn't cooked thus the mushy texture. The meal was taken and my husband ordered the Fish n chips. We weren't upset, we were disappointed but what made us upset was the lack of attention to the issue. Manager never came out to apologize or compensate, actually the waitress told us that they took the meal off the bill (no guff, dah). She came out with the bill and the machine stood by our table and waited, that was rude. We had to ask for the manager and when we were telling him that he should have come personally to the table to apologize he stood there like a lump on a log and didn't even care for our business. Since he didn't care for our business we chose to cancel our reservation for 10 that we had made for Dec. Poor management skills and under cook meat is what gives this, our last visit, a very poor review. Yours Truly Lorraine
Imagine your favourite resto-bar in the heart of Byron village! The kitchen regularly revises and responds to seasonal produce, and the menu is the BEST yet (other reviews here are not current). Major notes: STAFF are incredibly friendly, professional and accommodating, numerous GLUTEN-FREE menu selections (including poutine!), excellent wine, cocktails, cider, beer selection (not cheap but on par with other good restaurants), AMBIENCE inside and on PATIO is upscale enough for a date dinner out and casual enough for a quick trip to "the local"! Minor notes: Construction over summer 2014 by City of London (gone by eve), more trees needed (coming when construction is done)! Finale: If you live in west London, or out to Komoka, this is a no-brainer! If you are farther away it is worth the drive (did I mention parking nearby?). Byron Freehouse is worlds apart from any previous restaurants in Byron and worth multiple visits!
Great food, great service. Drinks are good, lots of space. The burgers are awesome done medium or better, great Benedict's, the big salad is awesome if u like beets. Beware of the bacon infused vodka.
I was disappointed in my experience at the Freehouse. I had previously had a burger there that was outstanding and had raised my expectations of quality and creativity for other menu items. I tried the steak and stout pie which was a mediocre dish at best. The flavours that came through were burnt tasting tomato paste and cooked carrots. The server seemed too busy to address this early in the meal, so when I finally told him what I thought, it was too late to switch to another entree. According to him, he's always gotten a positive response to this dish, so I am assuming that I just got a poorly seasoned batch. My wife had the pappardelle, which she didn't mind but probably wouldn't order again. If I go back, I will stick to the burgers and fish and chips which they seem to excel at.
Adam is a terrific server, and the outside seating was perfect. Awesome food. Started with Wings - crispy and tangy. I had fish and chips, she had Yorkshire pudding. We finished with Pecan Pie. Outstanding night. Thanks!
