I can't imagine a crappier experience, the food was awful, the service was down right nasty and the place was filled with junk, I don't mean kitsch or interesting mementos, just unremarkable junk. This place is not just the worst place I've tried in Fredericton, it's actually the worst place I've ever been to in my entire life and I've traveled 5 continents. My sandwich was ridiculously thin: it's what the blues brothers called a "Wish sandwich", "two pieces of bread and you wish you had some meat." If you go to Molly's Coffee House you will get ripped off while being treated like you did something wrong, you did, you patronized an establishment that does not want your business. Sadly whatever this place may have at one time to keep it open is long gone. .
Was strolling around downtown with friends one day and wanted milkshakes. Molly's looked like it might be the place to find such a thing. It was, but I can no longer drink a milkshake without thinking of this distasteful experience. The owner acted as if we were a bunch of misbehaved and unwelcome teenagers (we are mature college students). She kept rolling her eyes as we ordered and seemed almost angry when my friend with Celiac disease asked for an ice cream in a bowl because she can't eat cones. We sat down and waited for our order and noticed numerous signs around the restaurant warning people that it was rude to enter and just look at the menu. Our milkshakes were absolutely horrible. I worked in a take-out for 5 years and know how to make a milkshake. Ice cream, milk, and syrup the flavour of whatever ice cream you picked. Apparently that's harder than it sounds. Our milkshakes were only milk and ice cream, and we were short changed on the ice cream part. Basically we each just paid $5 for a glass of milk. The owner continued to serve us angrily, getting angry when no one wanted the remnants of the milkshake containers and when some of us wanted to pay with debit. Horrible experience. I wonder if she's ever heard the saying, "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar"? I honestly wonder how Molly's stays open.
Make a stopover in Fredericton on the way to PEI with some friends, and thought Molly's looked like a cute place to get some food before continuing on the road... Big mistake. As other reviewers noted, the proprietors are disinterested and condescending, and calling the food mediocre would be giving it more credit than it deserves. Service was also very slow. Avoid. PRO: Edible. Didn't give us food poisoning. CON: Awful proprietors. Slow service. Poor value. Final Verdict: Take your business elsewhere.
We went as a family for lunch as it was across from the park. The food was very good, however, the service (by the owner) was provided in a very un-interested manner. We had questions about the menu and these were answered in a very condescending way. This was the only negative experience in a week spent in New Brunswick.
I have travelled all over Canada and eaten at hundreds of restaurants and cafes across the country. Mollys has to rank in the top three of the worst experiences thus far. The food was awful, the atmosphere was uncomfortable and the service was downright uncomfortable. I felt as if I had broken in to someone's private home and forced them to make me lunch at gunpoint with how (the woman I assume to be) Molly treated her customers. She acted dismissive and put upon from the time we walked in to the point where we paid the bill; I felt as if I should be apologizing constantly for dragging her away from whatever else she was doing. I would have to wonder what that was seeing as we were the only people in the cafe at the time. The menu was false advertising as I doubt there was anything "organic" at all about what I ordered. The food is not by any stretch of the imagination good enough to endure the painfully awkward atmosphere and owner of this establishment. Please just save yourself and eat elsewhere -- there are plenty of good places to eat in Fredericton! Mollys is just not one of them.
