I spent in a week in Vancouver going to at least 2 coffee houses a day, including Bean Around the World, JJ Bean, Arbutus, The Snug Cafe and Bowen Island Roasting Company. Didn't make it to 49th Parallel. Blenz in Whistler Village not only knew what a double Breve was, but made it with superbly textured foam and delicious shots of coffee carefully extracted by the friendly barista. The tall good-looking guy. Yeah I'm a straight guy, but hey. Anyway. The coffee I got from the cafe on UBC campus at the medical sciences atrium was the poorest in every sense. An argumentative barista and an automatic espresso machine made me a weak-shot triple half-and-half latte. Learn the Breve, baristas. 1:2 ratio of espresso to foamed 1/2 and 1/2. Can't be simpler. As far as qualifications, I am a coffee roaster and cup coffee and espresso several times a week.
Best coffee spot in Whistler. Gonna set you back some money, but every drink I had there was made with care and absolutely delicious...even served in REAL non-disposable cups! It kept us coming back the whole time my wife and I were visiting. Now I'm back home and going through Blenz withdrawal. P.S. Try the hot chocolate.
