Wings and Fins - Seafood Restaurant, Bar & Bistro
Reviews
Having a 3 year old son I called in advance to see if it would be a concern to the staff. After being reassured we spent the evening not stressing out over my son's behavior, but enjoying ourselves. The food was absolutely to die for and it is the first time ever my son ate a whole fish fillet. I had the chicken nolsey- which was tender and delicious, my partner had the Parma, which he rated highly as well. The best aspect for us was the planes flying in and out which kept my boy entertained throughout the meal, as well as the staff being smart and bringing out my son's meal when our entrée came. It was the best dining experience I have had with a 3 year old and cannot speak highly enough about the food and service. I cannot wait to go back and try a fish dish, as the fish my son had (which I managed to steal a bite from) was so fresh you could still taste the sea :) The decor is not necessarily the classiest, but what does that matter when the food is phenomenal!
I finally had a chance to go to this restaurant today after hearing a lot of reports on the seafood quality being flown from Flinders Island, for a special birthday party of four. I can tell you the price of the seafood platter for two at $110 is way overpriced, I looked at the picture I took of the platter when I got home and was very disappointed at the contents it wasn't worth more than $60. But the worst part of the place was the service - there was none, the lady that acted as the Manager was very rude and abrupt the young staff all looked a little lost and inexperienced, having ordered a large lobster, we had to ask for extra serviettes, a bowl of water to wash our fingers there was no implements to crack the lobster legs, no picking implement to pick the meat from the body and legs. we had to ask for a bottle of water to drink even though we ordered two bottles of wine. having sat outside on a beautiful day, we were told that we had to go inside to order our seafood order, yet the people inside had the waitresses take their order at the tables - why? we paid the same prices and didn't get the service. Way overrated, way overpriced and way too basic for a quality restaurant. I will never recommend it or go there again - what a disappointment and waste of time - A DUMP!
Yesterday it was Australia Day 2014 and my Birthday! I had made an initial booking for 11 people to have lunch but unfortunately on Wed I had to to ring and change it to 4 including myself. I know if it was my restaurant I would be disappointed but would never let that feeling be felt by my patrons. That was not the case. But the worst was on Sat the "Manager" rang to confirm numbers and confirm we still wanted to sit outside in a very annoyed , almost angry way, asking if I was sure that I wanted to sit outside because they were busy I could not to think of changing it on arrival!!!! I was quite taken aback by the shortness and was very tempted in cancelling altogether. The reason I did not was because my special friend was looking forward to going as he had heard about the restaurant and being seafood he loves. On arrival we were shown to a table, again in an almost "have to" way... and were told as we were outside there would be no order taking, only the patrons inside were to have that privilege (my words) , although we paid exactly the same as if we had been inside, to go to the outside Bar to order. After queuing and as we wanted to order crayfish we were then told to go to the indoors Bar so we could choose the Crayfish. So more queuing... and had to pay in advance .... When eventually the meal arrived (De Luxe Seafood Platter - that in the internet page looks fairly big) we were confronted with a platter worth no more than $60 in any GOOD Restaurant with GOOD Service but cost $110. Although the Crayfish had been cut in two halves no implements to break the rest of the crayfish were provided which made extremely difficult to handle. We had to ask for water and lemon to rinse our fingers and extra serviettes (This is suppose to be a SEAFOOD RESTAURANT!). The only saving grace were the 2 very obliging "inexperienced" Staff members (for one of them it was her second shift - but if the so called Management had the wrong attitude how could they have taught them any better???? They were lucky they had a nice attitude! To finish off , the more "experienced" waitress served the coffees by "throwing" them on to the table not asking who they were for!!!! In one word APPALLING IN EVERY WAY! What could have been a great day in a good venue became unpleasant in most ways . Over priced (fresh and well prepared I give you that) but the service hopeless. To finish I would like to say that I will never go back and certainly will not recommend it to any of my friends or acquaintances...... Isabel
"Under New Management". This used to be a good place to go. It used to have a great 1st Sunday of the month Breakfast and the Seafood at night was just awesome. Oh the previous owner and staff all made you feel so welcome. Now day's its a very different story. Macca's Fillit-o-fish has more appeal and the staff at Macca's are better spoken and mannered. What a Dive... Try the parachuting next door.
We went to Wings n Fins tonight for my uncles 60th. The place looked nice, seated quickly but wasnt asked for a drink had to go get from bar myself and after finaly being asked to order it took 40 mins to get entrees and they forgot 1, then over another hr again the mains came out and they got some of the meals wrong and cooked some wrong. And almost forgot a couple of meals if we didnt remind them. Meals were ok little over priced and the waitress didnt seem to know which meals went to which table at one point?? Wouldv like some music or something too. I dont recomend....there are alot better!
