You people are horrible. This is a CAFE NOT MCDONALDS! The food is worth the price! The owner is hard working, cooks all of her food in store and the coffee is the best i have ever had! The personal attacks are down right rude the same as you must have been to get the reactions you have got from the owner. Bringing food in from another astablishment is RUDE! Have your cake and coffee and move to the next place if you want a progresive meal. I love the cakes and find it hard to choose which one to have, the hame fetta and corn tart is AMAZING!

My wife and I went for lunch and both staff and food were really unpleasant. The prices were shocking. I ordered a home made meat pie with salad that cost $11, the pie itself was $5 so the salad was $6... more expensive than the main part. Then my wife chose a slice of savoury pie with salad, $17!! Now wait for the math: One slice of pie was $8 (8 bucks for an eighth of a pie, that's right..) and therefore $9 for the salad on the same plate. Then we sat outside and waited for a good 10 minutes to be served, we were the only customers, apart from an old lady slurping a milkshake. The waitress finally arrived and literally threw the plates and cutlery down on the table. No smile, no word, nothing... My pie was smaller than a Mrs Mac and the dressing on the salad was a horrible French dressing, way too sweet mixed with olive oil (yukk)... On the wife's side, her salad was exactly the same serve as mine (remember that mine was 6 bucks and hers was 9... how does that work?) We ended at the corner shop and ordered a cheese and bacon pie.. There are some good places out in Braidwood, go anywhere you want but the Altenburg.

Terrible food, horrible service. Don't be fooled by the pretty location - this cafe makes extremely ordinary food and poor coffee, both of which are quite overpriced. What I found most offensive, however, is the hideous service, particularly by the owner. She never smiles and is grumpy at the best of times, but can be unspeakably rude and downright hostile. I recently took my entire family from overseas there on our way through town, and she was unbearably rude to my parents. When I calmly walked in to tell her formally (and politely) that she had been unnecessarily rude to my family she burst into an uncontrolled rage. I've never seen customer service so abysmal. And there certainly is no love in the food made there. I'd recommend anywhere in town but here.

Au revoir Cafe Altenburg! My husband and I have visited the Alternberg on several occasions. We have been happy to wait for a meal or coffee to be served. We chose the Altenberg because even though the food may have cost a little more, it was fresh and we enjoyed the ambience. We won't however, be going there again. We arrived about 3pm today to be greeted by a very grumpy waitress who informed us they had sold out of all meals. No smile, no apology, no encouragement to stay for coffee. Nevertheless, we ordered coffee and cake and sat outside. There was no-one else outside and only one table with customers inside. The rest of Braidwood was bursting at the seams as today is a public holiday for Canberrans. As we were very hungry and cake wasn't going to be quite enough, my husband bought a couple of pasties from across the road. After carefully disposing of the paper bags we proceeded to eat the pasties along with our coffee and cake. Fast forward to 'Psycho on Wallace Street'. The waitress came out and started screeching at us (from the doorway) about how dare we .....and how rude we were!! I responded politely that we had wanted to buy a meal from the Altenberg, but unfortunately were unable to. She returned inside and continued shouting so loudly and rudely about us to the staff and other customers inside that we could hear every word from the courtyard. I am sure this woman could not possibly be the owner of the business. No intelligent owner would knowingly choose to sabotage their own business by abusing the very customers who provide this business.

Great coffee, and amazing home made food, honestly all this negative feedback is from a select few ignorant locals and people who expect there meals to be served as soon as they sit down, delicious homemade food is not the same as fast food, the ignorance and plain rudeness of the people posting reviews is appalling and is obviously the result of some personal quarrel with the cafe and/or it's staff who i have NEVER seen to be unnecessarily rude towards anyone, it's pathetic and they should be removed for slanderous/irrelevant content. The vast majority of people who visit this beautiful cafe love the variety of gourmet home made food available, everything is fresh and the location is secluded and a great place to have a coffee and a bite to eat, the information given on the other reviews is basically a extraneous attempt to blemish the reputation of such a lovely cafe.
