Santa Fe Steakhouse
Reviews
As a business manager, I routinely take business clients and visitors to eat at Santa Fe Steakhouse. Service is excellent and wine list is very extensive. Drinks and sides are very pricey, so consider that if you are a 'budget' diner. I have had the "cowboy ribeye" several times and have always been very satisfied with it. Sea Bass special was superb and if offered, I would highly recommend it. Of the many choices in McAllen, this restaurant exceeds most other venues in the area.
The haricot vert were tough, undercooked. The chicken was tough, overcooked. The ribeye was tough, definitely not prime and questionable if it was even choice grade. The desserts are uninteresting, although the creme broule is classic and good. The bisque is unique and the best I've ever had, and the potatoes with onion and bacon were excellent this time. Service was excellent and staff are very friendly and welcoming.
I lived in New York and I came to McAllen with elevated expectations of how the food it will be . By luck first place ever in McAllen was Santa Fe Steak house and I have to said it exceeds some and it might be at the level of many of the good New York State house. Highly recommended.
Environment is nice but steak was definitely not worth the price, ordered New York strip for $42 and side of mashed potatoes but it was the worse steak meal, steak was cold and mashed potatoes were very dry. I would say longhorn steak house is a better place for a nice tasting steak.
For the $$$ best steak I've had in town. Always good service. The sides are extra so be prepared when you order your mashed potatoes! The guitar player in the bar side of the restaurant is awesome, time will fly while you digest your food, enjoy!
